Terran Space Freighter. SpaceRider Lightwave3d and OBJ format
SpaceRider: A little information about this design and the characters that inhabit it. I always liked this design and I am sure Star Wars Millennium Falcon inspired it, it is not the most interesting name for a ship.
So I have started calling it "Star Strider" AND "Sun Strider" or even calling the ship "Starhawk" not fixed on either at the moment, as with all my models I build them to scale.
Starhawk originated in The Crunch before transferring to another comic title better known to my generation as Hotspur and later appeared in Starblazer, Victor, Spike and (as ‘Young Starhawk’) Buddy, as well as three Hotspur annuals, these are well-known to my generation if you grew up in UK and Ireland
Heroes:
Sol Rynn, alias Starhawk, was a roving lawman who brought justice to the scattered worlds of the slowly disintegrating Terran Empire in the 26th century AD, along with his trusty robot sidekick, Droid. They rode in a ship called the Space Rider ^ and answered SOS calls sent out using special SOS cards of Rynn’s design, how do those cards get around? I don’t know if it was ever explained.
I discovered the character in Starblazer on the cover by one of my favourite artists Ian Kennedy, but it was the ship that stood out, this is my interpretation of that design.
As its lightwave3d the model is in layers:
1:Space-Rider
2:Hatches Closed (These are the side ramps like the MFalcon for crews to enter/exit)
3:Hatch Starboard Open (As it says, SB Ramp is open, while the Port side Ramp is closed)
4:Hatch Portside Open (the reverse of the above, I never made a corridor if there is interest I will)
5:Landing Gear Closed
6:Landing Gear Open (and Landing Gear extended)
7:Top Stablizers Up (for atmospheric flight)
8:Top Stabilizers Down
9:Top Cannons (this canon has its "own" layer so it can at least rotate 360, but that's it)
10:Lower Cannons (This canon also has its "own" layer, but using a Null in LightWave3d scene file allows me to give its "own" rotation centre so it can also rotate).
This design has gone through some revisions, I have added a low poly cockpit and rooms. (note the stablizers are up for atmospheric flight)
A more recent rendering in Lightwave3d with the background by GrahamTG, here is the SpaceRider/SpaceHawk or any name you like accompanied by 3 Hornet Fighters. (note the stabilizers are down)
There are 12 small cabins with bunks, so the ship can comfortably carry 12 personnel. I never got around to adding a lower cargo bay, perhaps, in the future if there is a call for it.
