How to Build the Enterprise Tutorial 2025 Study Model and PDF
How to Build the Enterprise Tutorial 2025: Study Model and PDF manual of my tutorial.
This is my first and only tutorial using NewTek’s award-winning 3D modelling program Lightwave3D, I first wrote this tutorial in 2011 and after some refinement and editing, I am now re-releasing in 2025, this tutorial covers how I first made Star Trek’s iconic U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 as a beginner to Lightwave modelling, while it is not my first model, I cut my teeth on building the Britannia from Lensman: Secret of the Lens (1984) and the USS Palomino from The Black Hole (1979). So I had a little experience before starting the Enterprise itself, but this tutorial is aimed at new modellers first coming to grips with Lightwave3d modelling.
Lightwave3D Modeller has not changed its basic tools, nor has its layout changed apart from the addition of the latest modern tools. To be sure, I asked my friend Graham Gazzard to read this tutorial if his time allowed; he is a fellow Lightwave user. He was always generous, and his reply was encouraging
“I’ve read through it a couple of times and as far as I can see there are no discernable difference between the tutorial and LW2024. The menus may look slightly different but the functionality and shortcuts are all there. Surfacing is significantly different from LW2018 onwards as PBR becomes the main option, but legacy surfacing is still available, so shouldn’t be an issue. It’s certainly a comprehensive well structured and readable piece of work”.
